The stabbing death of 22-year-old Vipin Kumar in Paldi Meena suburb, about 10 km from Jaipur, led to widespread protests and significant disruption on the Jaipur-Agra national highway on Monday. Kumar was stabbed approximately 14 times late Sunday night in broad daylight, police said. Mohammad Anas and his associates have been accused of the attack.

Ongoing dispute under investigation

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Tejaswani Gautam stated the murder’s motive is still under investigation. Local sources indicate a two-year-long dispute between the victim and accused, with prior mediation efforts ending unsuccessfully. The conflict reportedly started when Kumar’s goat strayed into Anas’s lane. Friends of Kumar have suggested a possible dispute over a girl, though police said this remains unconfirmed as reported by TOI.

Accused arrested after encounter

Police arrested Mohammad Anas, described as a “history-sheeter” with over a dozen criminal cases, along with five accomplices on Monday afternoon. During the arrest, Anas allegedly attempted to grab an Assistant Sub-Inspector’s service pistol, prompting police to shoot him in the leg. He was hospitalized while in custody as reported by TOI.

Protests

Large crowds gathered Monday morning to protest the killing, blocking traffic multiple times on the highway. Some demonstrators targeted and damaged shops reportedly owned by members of a particular community. Police intervened, deploying a large force including Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Quick Response Teams (QRT), which pushed back protesters amid sporadic clashes.

Family demands compensation

The victim’s family refused to allow the postmortem until their demands for financial compensation, job guarantees, and swift justice were addressed. The protest was withdrawn Monday evening after administration officials agreed to the family’s demands. The local community continues to insist on the punishment of the accused.

Accused's past

Residents expressed anger, claiming Anas had previously threatened multiple families in the area, including Kumar’s. Local resident Sunil Khatik said Anas had been arrested before and publicly paraded by police but grew bolder over time.
