Seven individuals were arrested by Jaipur police after a video surfaced showing beer bottles being distributed on a busy street in the city on June 6—coinciding with Ekadashi, a significant day in the Hindu calendar when many observe fasts and refrain from indulgence.

The now-viral clip shows local social media influencer Lappu Sachin handing out beer bottles to passersby lined up along the roadside.

The incident, which played out in broad daylight, drew widespread criticism on social media for both disrupting public order and showing disregard for religious sentiments.

As reactions poured in, users tagged Jaipur Police on X, demanding action. Police took cognisance of the video and launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of seven individuals involved in the act.

Footage also emerged later of the arrested individuals being paraded by the police. In the clip, they are seen apologising and holding their ears in a gesture of remorse.

Netizens slam timing of ‘alcohol party’

While stunts for social media are not uncommon, what sparked anger in this case was the choice of timing—Ekadashi, which is traditionally observed with fasting and prayer. The juxtaposition of a public beer giveaway with a sacred day was seen by many as an intentional provocation.

Some passersby appeared amused in the video, while others looked clearly disturbed. Several social media users questioned the influencer’s motives and condemned the use of a public space for such activity.

Rajasthan BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj shared a video of the arrests on social media with the caption: "They were acting smart, distributing beer on the streets for a reel. Jaipur Police taught them a lesson."

The video has since clocked thousands of views, reigniting conversations about the growing trend of attention-seeking stunts and their potential to disrupt public harmony.
