'Itni toh hamari life savings hai': Father’s reaction to son’s job offer leaves internet teary-eyed

Not every success story is about big money or job titles. Sometimes, it’s about the people who stood by you through every small step, and the joy of making them proud. A Reddit post by @TimeRaina recently touched thousands, showing how a dream job became an emotional moment for one Indian family.

The Reddit user grew up in a modest town where most people ran local shops and lived quiet, simple lives. Words like “job package” weren’t commonly used. But his mother always encouraged him to dream beyond their surroundings. She believed in him and pushed him to work hard, especially during the late-night study hours when everyone else was sleeping.

His father, however, had a different plan. He wanted his son to become an RAS officer, a respected government job in their state. But the boy had other ideas. With time, he convinced his father and began his JEE preparation journey.


Cracking the JEE exam wasn’t easy. He didn’t get a great score the first time. But instead of giving up, he tried again, did better, and earned a place at an IIT. His journey was full of hard work, and he never forgot where he came from.

Years later, after completing his studies, he received a job offer with a salary beyond anything his family had seen. When he told his parents, there was silence on the other end. Then, for the first time, he heard his father cry. “Beta, itna toh hamara life saving hai,” his father said, meaning the job’s salary matched what they had saved in a lifetime.

That single sentence moved everyone to tears, including the IITian himself.
