Ishan Kishan mocks Rohit Sharma for missing three ODIs following his 200-run performance against Bangladesh

Shubman Gill became the latest batsman to enter the elite double-century club in One-Day Internationals on Wednesday. The 23-year-old reached the milestone in the final over of India's batting in the first ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand in Hyderabad. Gill became the sixth Indian and eighth batsman in history to achieve a double century in 50 overs of cricket.


Gill set a record by scoring 208 runs in just 149 balls, hitting 19 fours and nine sixes. He beat Ishan Kishan's record, which he set last month at the age of 24, to become the youngest hitter to score a double century in one-day internationals.


Ishan Kishan and Indian captain Rohit Sharma welcomed Shubman Gill into the elite group of batsmen who have scored 200 ODI innings following the first ODI between India and New Zealand. Kishan achieved the milestone on December 10, 2022, against Bangladesh, while Sharma has three ODI double-centuries to his record.

In an attempt to ridicule Ishan, Rohit wondered why he hadn't been allowed to play in the previous three matches despite making a double-century against Bangladesh last month to which Ishan replied you are the captain to which all three batters laughed.

Rohit is the only batsman to have achieved several double centuries and owns the ODI record for the highest individual score, 264.

Ishan made his maiden ODI double-century as an opener last month, but with Rohit's comeback to the starting XI, he was forced to abandon his berth and sit on the bench. He missed three matches against Sri Lanka last week, but was given the opportunity to bat at No. 4 against New Zealand in KL Rahul's absence.

Michael Bracewell's hard-hitting 140, which pushed the game to a nail-biting climax, forced India to fight hard for their triumph. In the end, the hosts held on to their lead and won by a score of 12 runs.
