When is Eid in India?
Confirmation of Eid-ul-Fitr in India is expected after the Maghrib prayer. Eid al-Fitr begins with the special congregational prayer, Salat al-Eid, offered at mosques and open grounds across communities. Before the prayers, Muslims are required to give Zakat al-Fitr, a charitable contribution that ensures underprivileged families can also partake in the festive celebrations. This act of charity promotes inclusivity, allowing people from all sections of society to celebrate Eid regardless of their financial condition. The day typically starts early, with people wearing new clothes, applying perfumes, and heading for prayers. It is also customary to greet one another with “Eid Mubarak,” meaning “Blessed Eid.”
