Indian Railways has announced a 17-day Shri Ramayana Yatra tour aimed at promoting pilgrimage tourism, with the journey set to begin on March 30. The tour will cover key locations associated with the life of Lord Rama across India and Nepal as part of efforts to strengthen organised spiritual travel alongside luxury tourism.

During the 16-night and 17-day journey, the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC tourist train will halt at prominent sites including Ayodhya, Nandigram, Sitamarhi, Janakpur, Buxar, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Shringverpur, Chitrakoot, Nashik, Hampi and Rameshwaram.

The tour will begin from Safdarjung railway station, with Ayodhya as the first destination where tourists will visit Ram Janmabhoomi temple, Hanuman Garhi and Ram Ki Paidi. The itinerary will then include Nandigram, followed by Sitamarhi in Bihar, from where passengers will travel by road to Janakpur in Nepal to visit Janaki temple, Dhanush Dham temple and Parashuram Kund.


Shri Ramayana Yatra tour itinerary

The overall pilgrimage route will cover Delhi – Ayodhya – Janakpur – Sitamarhi – Buxar – Varanasi – Prayagraj – Shringverpur – Chitrakoot – Nashik – Hampi – Rameshwaram – Delhi, connecting key religious and cultural sites linked to the Ramayana.

  • Ayodhya: Ram Janmabhoomi temple, Hanuman Garhi and Ram Ki Paidi

  • Nandigram: Bharat-Hanuman temple and Bharat Kund

  • Janakpur (Nepal): Ram Janaki mandir, Dhanush Dham temple and Parashuram Kund

  • Sitamarhi (Bihar): Janaki mandir and Punaura Dham

  • Buxar: Ram Rekha Ghat and Rameshwar Nath temple

  • Varanasi: Tulsi Manas temple, Sankat Mochan temple, Kashi Vishwanath temple and Ganga aarti

  • Sitamarhi (Uttar Pradesh): Sita Samahit Sthal (Sita Mata temple)

  • Prayagraj: Triveni Sangam, Hanuman temple and Bharadwaj ashram

  • Shringverpur: Shringi Rishi temple

  • Chitrakoot: Gupt Godavari, Ram Ghat and Sati Anusuya temple

  • Nashik: Trayambkeshwar temple and Panchvati (Sita gufa and Kalaram temple)

  • Hampi: Anjanadri hill, Virupaksha temple and Vitthal temple

  • Rameshwaram: Ramanathaswamy temple and Dhanushkodi

Bharat Gaurav train route and operational halts

The train itinerary will follow the route Delhi Safdarjung – Ayodhya – Sitamarhi – Buxar – Varanasi – Manikpur – Nashik Road – Hosapete – Rameshwaram – Delhi Safdarjung. These stops are aligned with logistical requirements and rail connectivity, while additional road transfers will be arranged for select pilgrimage destinations.

Seat capacity and accommodation categories

The Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC tourist train has a total capacity of 150 passengers. Accommodation includes 20 seats in superior AC first class coupe, 38 in superior AC first class cabin, 36 in deluxe AC two-tier and 56 in comfort AC three-tier.

Important travel notes for passengers

Berth allocation will be finalised three days prior to departure, with one lower berth assigned for every two passengers booked. At the Indo-Nepal border crossing at Bhittamore, immigration facilities are not available. As a result, only Indian citizens will be permitted to enter Nepal and visit Janakpur, while passengers of other nationalities will be required to remain at Sitamarhi.

India has a vast spiritual network with over 648,907 Hindu temples and major pilgrimage circuits such as the Sapta Puri, four holy Dhams, 12 Jyotirlingas and 51 Shakti Pithas. Key destinations include Varanasi, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Tirupati, Amritsar and Bodh Gaya.

The Shri Ramayana Yatra is being conducted as part of Indian Railways’ broader initiative to promote pilgrimage tourism through structured itineraries and premium travel experiences.
