Flight Cancellations Latest Update: The sky over the world’s most critical transit corridor has fallen silent as a sudden military escalation transforms the Middle East into a prohibited zone for civil aviation. Following the launch of major combat operations by the United States and Israel against Iranian installations, the regional air network has effectively collapsed under the weight of emergency airspace closures and retaliatory strikes. From the grounded fleets at Hamad International Airport to the rerouted long-haul paths of European carriers, the machinery of global travel has ground to a halt, leaving tens of millions of passengers caught in the crossfire of a rapidly widening conflict.

Iran-Israel War: Qatar Airways flight cancellations

The Qatar Airways Group has officially confirmed the temporary suspension of all flights to and from Doha. This decision follows the total closure of Qatari airspace in the wake of regional hostilities and reports from the Qatari Defense Ministry that it has repelled waves of Iranian attacks. To manage the crisis, the airline has deployed additional ground staff at Hamad International Airport and other key global hubs to assist stranded passengers. While the airline intends to resume operations as soon as the airspace re-opens, it has cautioned travelers to anticipate significant and lasting delays to the flight schedule once usual service is restored.

Israel-Iran War: Lufthansa, KLM, Norwegian and SAS airlines disruptions

Major European airlines have moved swiftly to isolate their operations from the conflict zone. Lufthansa has suspended all flights to and from Tel Aviv, Beirut, and Amman until March 7, while also halting Dubai services through the weekend. The German carrier has explicitly stated it will avoid the airspace of Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Iran for the duration of this period. Similarly, Air France and KLM have canceled all services to Tel Aviv and Beirut, with KLM advancing its suspension of the Amsterdam-Tel Aviv route. Nordic carriers have also pulled back, with Norwegian Air suspending Dubai flights and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) halting its Copenhagen-to-Tel Aviv service.

Iran-Israel latest: Emirates and Turkish Airlines affected

Emirates Airlines, one of the world's largest long-haul carriers, has temporarily suspended operations to and from Dubai due to multiple regional closure of airspaces. Turkish Airlines has implemented one of the most extensive suspension lists, halting flights to Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Jordan until March 2. Furthermore, its services to Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, and Oman are currently suspended through February 28, with the possibility of further extensions as the security situation evolves.

The scope of the cancellations covers nearly every major capital and commercial center in the Middle East. Direct flight suspensions have been confirmed for the following cities:

  • Doha, Qatar
  • Dubai and Abu Dhabi, UAE
  • Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, and Tabriz, Iran
  • Tel Aviv, Israel
  • Beirut, Lebanon
  • Amman, Jordan
  • Manama, Bahrain

Flightradar24 shows rerouting

Beyond direct cancellations, the conflict has forced a radical restructuring of global flight paths. Flightradar24 maps confirmed that the airspace over Iran and Iraq was completely empty on Saturday morning as airlines diverted planes to avoid potential missile paths and debris. Virgin Atlantic has announced it will temporarily avoid Iraqi airspace, leading to pre-planned rerouting for its long-haul network and the cancellation of its London Heathrow to Dubai service. Other carriers, such as LOT Polish Airlines and Japan Airlines, have been forced to turn flights back mid-route or cancel Tokyo-to-Doha connections, highlighting the precarious nature of international transit in a theater of active war.
