IPL Points Table 2023: Rajasthan Royals takes top position after nail-biting finish against CSK

Rajasthan Royals is currently leading the IPL points table after a thrilling match against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday night.

After a nail-biting final over against Chennai Super Kings on April 12, Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals have now climbed to the top of the Indian Premier League 2023 points table.

As per the current IPL standings, Rajasthan Royals have six points after winning three out of the four matches they've played till now.

Rajasthan Royals finished the match to a dramatic end with Sandeep Sharma barely managing to defend 21 runs in the final over as RR stood victorious over CSK by 3 runs at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday.


IPL 2023 standings

The Rajasthan Royals dethroned Lucknow Super Giants which moved down to second with Kolkata Knight Riders staying in third. Last season Champions Gujarat Titans remained at fourth with Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings maintaining their positions in fifth and sixth respectively. The Royal Challengers Bangalore stands in the seventh position. The five-time Champions Mumbai Indians remain at eighth while Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals are in, ninth and tenth respectively.

MS Dhoni-led CSK won the toss and chose to field first. Rajasthan Royals posted 175/8 in their 20 overs.

After Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) fell early, Jos Buttler (52 off 36 balls, with one four and three sixes) put on a 77-run stand for the second wicket with Devdutt Paddikal (38 off 26 balls, with five boundaries).
In the middle order, knocks from Ravichandran Ashwin (30 in 22 balls, with one four and two sixes) and Shimron Hetmyer (30* in 18 balls, with one four and two sixes) helped RR reach a competitive total.

CSK did not start the chase for 176 runs well and lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early for just eight runs. A 68-run partnership between Ajinkya Rahane (31 off 19 balls with two fours and a six) and Devon Conway gave CSK the boost and Conway went on to make 50 in 38 balls, consisting of six fours, but he did not get the support from the other end.
In the end, CSK captain MS Dhoni and Jadeja tried to finish the game but fell short of 3 runs and the better team won.
