As per the announcement, defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2026 opener in Bengaluru on March 28.
However, the BCCI clarified that all matches scheduled at the Chinnaswamy Stadium remain subject to clearance from the Karnataka government-appointed expert committee. The committee is scheduled to meet on March 13 to assess venue preparedness in the wake of the deadly stampede at the stadium last season.
A total of 20 matches will be played across 10 venues — Bengaluru, Mumbai, Guwahati, New Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad.
IPL tickets
As of now, the BCCI has not made any official announcement regarding ticket sales. However, Zomato’s District app has created a dedicated window for IPL tickets with a “Coming Soon” disclaimer. This suggests that tickets may become available on the platform once sales begin.
Meanwhile, BookMyShow has started pre-sale registrations for IPL 2026 tickets.
On its website, BookMyShow is allowing fans to register for Gujarat Titans’ matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and Mumbai Indians’ matches at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The platform has clarified that pre-registration does not guarantee a ticket and only provides fans with an opportunity to access tickets earlier than others.
Fans who register for Mumbai Indians’ matches may also get a chance to become Blue Members under the franchise’s membership programme.
BCCI is expected to announce the start of the ticket sale soon - probably on March 13 when it will decide on the matches scheduled at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
