The IPL auction went well on 23rd December. The franchise owners geared up for a mini-auction at Kochi. 405 players registered for the auction, for the 87 spots which were filled by 10 teams. Out of 405 players, 273 are Indians and 132 are overseas players.

Abdul Basith was purchased by Rajasthan Royals (RR) during the IPL 2023 Mini Auction on December 23 (Friday) and it was obvious that skipper Sanju Samson had his hand in the deal. Basith was acquired by RR for his base price of Rs 20 lakhs. Like the skipper Sanju, Basith is also from Kerala. This may be the beginning of a young man from Ernakulam. Despite not being at the auction table on Friday, Samson may have just made one of the best bargains for his squad.

Abdul Basith is from a low middle class family. His father is a bus driver who works for the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. Abdul Basith's family glued to the TV when RR purchased him. Basith was not at home. He was surprised to see a cake waiting for him when he returned. He had already been acquired by the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals for the basic price of Rs 20 lakh in the mini auction by that point. Hs father said he is very proud that his son has been selected for the tournament.

The journey of Basith has barely started. Only this year did he make his LIST A and T20 debuts. His LIST A debut took place for Kerana against Haryana in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match at Alur. In October, he made his T20 debut against Arunachal Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022. Basith stands out due to his high strike rate. He has appeared in 8 T20 matches so far, with a strike rate of 149.31. He strikes the ball far and tall.

Sanju has brought a game-changing player as Basith, a secret weapon that many people might not be aware of, and he might unveil him in the IPL 2023 at a crucial moment. Another Keralan cricketer is ready to make a name for himself.

IPL mini auction saw the highest bid in IPL history, Sam Curran was taken by Punjab at Rs 18.50 crore.
