Apple has yet to say a word officially about the iPhone 18 series, but fresh leaks are already painting a clearer picture of what the next Pro models could look like. According to multiple tipster reports, the iPhone 18 Pro Max may finally deliver a substantial battery upgrade, potentially improving battery life, though that could come at the cost of a slightly thicker and heavier design.

Reports suggest the larger Pro Max model could feature a battery capacity of around 5,500mAh, while the smaller iPhone 18 Pro may also become thicker because of camera-related hardware changes. None of these details have been confirmed by Apple, and the final specifications could differ from the leaked information.

iPhone 18 Pro Max battery capacity could increase

According to a recent report from tipster Ice Universe, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could pack a battery of around 5,500mAh. By comparison, reports suggest the iPhone 17 Pro Max has a 5,088mAh battery. However, Apple has not confirmed the battery capacities of either device.

Separate regulatory listings reportedly spotted in China and the United States have also indicated capacities of roughly 5,391mAh and 5,567mAh, respectively. If those figures are accurate, the next Pro Max could gain nearly 500mAh over its predecessor, which may translate into longer real-world battery life.

Apple traditionally focuses on efficiency improvements through both hardware and software, so any battery-life gains would likely depend on more than just a larger cell.

A slightly thicker and heavier iPhone?

The larger battery may require additional internal space. According to the same leak, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could measure about 9mm thick and weigh around 240g.

For comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is said to be 8.75mm thick and weigh 233g. That would mean an increase of roughly 0.25mm in thickness and 7g in weight.

Another report has suggested Apple may adopt a stainless-steel vapour chamber cooling system, which could also contribute to the added bulk. Even so, a weight of 240g would not be unprecedented for Apple’s flagship range; the iPhone 14 Pro Max weighed approximately the same.

iPhone 18 Pro may also gain thickness

The smaller iPhone 18 Pro is also rumoured to become thicker, though the reason appears to be different.

Weibo-based tipster Fixed Focus Digital claims the device will retain the aluminium alloy frame expected to debut with the iPhone 17 Pro series, but could feature a thicker frame and a larger camera module.

However, there is disagreement among leakers. An earlier report from the same source suggested that the added thickness on the Pro Max might be limited to the rear camera bump rather than the entire chassis, leaving the final design uncertain.

Camera upgrades tipped for the iPhone 18 Pro series

Beyond the physical design, the iPhone 18 Pro models are rumoured to receive significant camera improvements. Previous leaks have pointed to:

  • A triple 48-megapixel rear camera system
  • 48MP primary sensor
  • 48MP ultra-wide sensor
  • 48MP telephoto sensor

A variable aperture for the main camera

Such changes could help Apple improve low-light performance, depth control and zoom capabilities, though the company has not confirmed any of these features.

Apple A20 chip expected

Under the hood, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is widely expected to use Apple’s next-generation 2nm A20 chip. If Apple moves to a 2nm process, the chip could deliver better performance and power efficiency than current-generation silicon.

As with the camera rumours, this remains speculative until Apple announces the hardware officially.

iPhone 18 launch timeline

Industry reports continue to point to a September launch for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Apple is also rumoured to be preparing its first foldable iPhone for the same launch window, although the company has not confirmed any such product.

If the latest leaks are accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could offer one of the most meaningful battery upgrades seen in recent iPhone generations. The trade-off may be a device that is slightly thicker and heavier, though the difference may not be dramatic in everyday use.

For now, all details surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro series remain unofficial, and Apple’s final design could change before launch. Until the company unveils the devices, it is best to treat these reports as informed speculation rather than confirmed specifications.
