In 1998, this vision became official when the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth declared August 12 as International Youth Day, a move later endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly.

The theme for International Youth Day 2025 is “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond.”

This milestone year also marks the 30th anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth, making the 2025 celebrations especially significant.
