When was International Chefs Day initiated?

International Chefs Day was initiated in 2004. It was created by the late Dr. Billy Gallagher, a renowned chef and businessman, who was the President of the South African Chefs Association for 21 years. Dr Gallagher also became the President of the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) in 1996.


History & Ethos of International Chefs Day
According to the Worldchefs WACS website, International Chefs Day celebrates the noble profession. The day also serves chefs worldwide a reminder of their duty to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of chefs.

Over the years, the Worldchefs has partnered with platforms like Nestlé Professional to teach young children the importance of healthy eating through workshops across the globe. Physical events were limited during the pandemic, but Worldchefs did not stop their International Chefs Day celebrations.

About 648 chefs worldwide created and shared videos on social media, which became instant hits. The organization was able to reach over 93,000 children on International Ches Day 2021, while the social media hits by November crossed the 183,000 mark.
