The world celebrates International Anti-Corruption Day(IACD) on December 9. The primary purpose of honoring this day is to promote awareness of a corruption-free society. The United Nations General Assembly approved the United Nations Convention Against Corruption on October 31, 2003, as the first step towards tackling corruption. The Assembly also declared December 9 as World Anti-Corruption Day in order to raise awareness about corruption and the Convention's role in combating and preventing it. It became effective in December 2005.
