In a post on Friday, Dipke wrote: “Crackdown on Cockroach Janta Party.”
He then listed a series of alleged actions against the party’s accounts:
- Instagram page hacked
- Personal Instagram account hacked
- Twitter account withheld
- Backup account also taken down
The party’s X account was withheld in India on Thursday. Shortly afterwards, however, a new handle titled “Cockroach is Back” surfaced online with the tagline: “Cockroaches Don’t Die.”
The CJI later clarified that his remarks had been misquoted and said they were aimed specifically at people entering the legal profession using “fake and bogus degrees”.
The Cockroach Janta Party account, created a day after the remarks on May 15, rapidly gained traction on social media. It drew support from politicians, activists, artists, and a wide cross-section of internet users.
