A content-creator couple has tested Dyson’s $499.99 (about Rs 47,000) CameraJet toothbrush, a device featuring a built-in camera and liquid-jet system, in a video that has drawn mixed reactions online.

The video was captioned, “Is the new Dyson CameraJet toothbrush worth it?” and showed the couple brushing their teeth while testing the camera and plaque-targeting features. The footage appeared to amuse viewers, while also prompting questions about whether the technology justifies the price.

Viewers debate whether the toothbrush is worth it

The review attracted comments from people with differing views on the product.

“You’ve really taken one for the team with this review,” one person commented.

Another wrote, “This was too funny to watch. Other toothbrushes have lasted us years with no changes, so I’m surprised people will buy into this!”

A commenter identifying themselves as a dentist said, “As a dentist, I thank you for your service! I wanted to see what the hype was about.”

Another viewer questioned the need for the technology, writing, “Brilliant review, guys. Although I feel this is for people who don't have an extra 2 minutes to use a separate water flosser.”

Some viewers also questioned whether the creators had been paid by Dyson to feature the product.

The creators responded to those claims, saying, “Not a paid AD or gifted, we paid full price for this unit from Curry’s. Stay to the end for proof of purchase if you don’t believe us! We are really hoping that the video generates enough income to pay for itself - also if Dyson is watching, hey, maybe next time?!”

What Dyson says the CameraJet does

According to Dyson, the CameraJet is designed to combine brushing with camera-assisted detection of gaps between teeth and targeted liquid flossing. The company says its camera uses machine learning to identify gaps and trigger a liquid jet while the user brushes.

Dyson says the device has a 100,000-pixel macro camera that analyses 28 images per second. The company also says the toothbrush can connect to the MyDyson app, where users can view live footage and access brushing and flossing guidance. Dyson states that camera images are not stored on the toothbrush or in the cloud.

The device also has a liquid reservoir for the jet, a dual-bristle brush head and a variable sonic brushing system. Dyson says the brush can operate in automatic or manual jetting modes and offers adjustable brushing intensity.

Dyson describes the product as part of a wider dental system that includes its toothbrush, charging dock, toothpaste and mouthrinse. The CameraJet launched in September 2026 and is listed by Dyson at $499.99 in the US.

James Dyson explains the idea behind the device

Dyson founder and chief engineer James Dyson said the company developed the product after researching oral-care routines and the areas between teeth where plaque can accumulate.

“Flossing is an awkward and time-consuming chore. Few of us do it even though we know we should,” Dyson said.

He said the company wanted to address three issues: seeing the gaps between teeth, removing plaque from those areas and improving cleaning performance while brushing.

“By combining a camera, machine learning, precision fluid dynamics, advanced brushing technologies, connectivity and WiFi, Dyson CameraJet™ introduces an entirely new way to keep your mouth healthy,” he said.

The company says the device’s camera-based system was developed to identify gaps between teeth and direct the liquid jet towards them. Dyson also says its engineers developed the jet system and tested its brushing technology as part of the product’s development.

For now, however, the unusual design and high price appear to have become as much a talking point as the technology itself, with the creator review giving social-media users a closer look at a toothbrush that costs hundreds of dollars.
