Indonesia, that has long suffered the pandemic blow, is now gradually shedding the “no entry” tag that was adopted around the world due to the pandemic. The country plans to introduce the “Digital Nomad Visas” to bring in much-needed foreign tourists into the country. Bali, as we know it, is a popular destination for bars and beaches, but now a third factor the “spiritual factor” is now being given a lot of attention.

So, how can a Digital Nomad be differentiated from a foreign tourist? The coinage is self-descriptive. The person is digitally connected to his work and as a nomad, he is able to explore the treats and the destinations that Indonesia, in this case, has to offer.

The visa for digital nomads is for 5 years. The longest tourism visa ever for this country. People who belong to this category are those who as they travel and soak up the sights and interests of the country, continue to work for their living, earning in the country they work but spending the money in the country they travel to.

With the pandemic-induced lockdown, people started working from the comfort of their own homes. This proved that work can be done without workers having assembled together in the office. Working remotely means the person can work anywhere, so long the individual is connected to the internet.

With many countries now opening their workspaces post the pandemic, countries continue to work from home or work remotely.

Indonesia hopes to invite more than 3 million people as digital nomads into their country. They have replaced their 3S (sun, sea, and sand) with serenity, spirituality, and sustainability. As long they remain employees earning their livelihood from their working countries, digital nomads can enjoy Indonesia, including Bali, and live without paying any tax.

Plenty of countries all over the world including Twitter and Air BNB allow remote work and as per Bloomberg most (95%), digital nomad respondents selected Bali as the place to be.

Apart from Indonesia, many other countries offer a similar concept. Italy, Croatia, Georgia, Hungary, and Iceland offer nomad visas, to name a few.
