The account that posted Bhojpuri chartbuster Lollipop Lagelu belonged to Ian Woolford, an American-Australian Hindi professor at La Trobe University in Melbourne.
The posts caught Indian users eyes because a majority of the posts were Hindi catchphrases and some a brief moment many actually believed that it Elon Musk tweeting in Hindi. People did not suspect that it was fake because the account went to great lengths to replicate Elon Musk's profile. He even changed his bio to mimic Elon Musk's, 'Twitter Complaint Hotline Operator'.
The account was eventually suspended on Saturday after the tweets went viral.
The controversy follows after Elon Musk put into effect a number of new policies after acquiring the microblogging site. He was recently also slammed for firing almost 50% of his employees after tweeting that the company was losing almost $4 million per day.
After a $44 billion buyout, Musk became the new owner of the microblogging site. Following which top executives such as ex-CEO Parag Agarwal and Vijaya Gadde were fired, prompting a flood of memes on Twitter.
