Indian-origin artiste blends Carnatic music with Ed Sheeran’s 'shape of you', internet gives a thumbs up

Various covers of Ed Sheeran's popular track 'Shape Of You' have been shared on internet, but this one is a tad different. An Indian-origin artiste, based in Washington DC, has given the popular track a Carnatic music twist.

Around a week ago, Hrishi posted a video on his Instagram handle featuring him singing the song. What was interesting about this cover version was that he had blended elements of Carnatic music with the hugely popular track by Sheeran. The caption on the video read “If Ed Sheeran sang Southern Indian (Carnatic) music…”.

The cover version begins with Hrishi singing a few lines from the original song. Soon enough, you see him rendering some Carnatic classical notes that add a new color to the track.

The fusion has caught the attention of social media users.

"Giving me goosebumps every single time," wrote a user on Instagram.

"Goodness. Sorry. I was distracted by your gorgeous curls.. music fire too," said another user.

Hrishi’s is an independent artiste who was raised in DC’ and hails from Tamil Nadu. His Instagram handle has several other interesting cover versions of popular songs.
