Indian man moves back to India after 20 years in Australia with his Australian wife, know why

After spending two decades building a career and life in Australia, Indian man Loveleen Vats is preparing to move back to India with his Australian wife, Courtney Vats, and their children. The couple has decided to leave behind a well-paid job and comfortable home, with Vats saying the need to be closer to his ageing parents was a key reason for the move.

The couple shared their decision in an Instagram video after receiving repeated questions from followers about why they were returning to India. Vats said being thousands of kilometres away from his parents had increasingly become difficult for the family.

Why Loveleen Vats is returning to India

Vats said his parents' advancing age was among the main factors behind the decision.

"We want to live with our parents," he said, describing it as one of their main reasons for leaving Australia.

The couple's decision reflects a broader consideration around reverse migration, where emotional and family priorities can influence the choice to return home after years abroad.

Couple wants children to experience Indian culture

Another factor behind the move is the couple's desire to give their children a stronger connection with India and its culture.

Their children have spent their formative years in Australia, but Vats and Courtney now want them to experience Indian life more directly rather than learning about their roots only through stories or occasional visits.

"Our children should get the experience of India's life, learn positive things from our Indian culture," Vats said.

The decision means the family will leave behind a life they have established overseas in favour of living closer to their roots and extended family.

‘We have taken our decision’

Vats acknowledged that returning to India was not an easy decision and said the family chose not to overanalyse every possible challenge before committing to the move.

"We have taken our decision that we will spend the rest of our lives in India. We have not thought so much about what we will do there, whether the children will like it or not. If we had thought so much about it, we would not have been able to make this decision," he said.

He added, "So, guys, we have packed our bags, and we are going to India very soon."

Social media users debate decision to move back

The announcement has drawn mixed reactions from viewers.

One Instagram user questioned the decision, writing, "I am sure you're gonna be back in Australia! Cost of education in India would be way too much and not worth it."

Another commenter said the transition could be difficult for the family, pointing to factors such as schooling, friendships, family ties, employment, lifestyle and the healthcare system.

"I’m born and raised in Aus and after a holiday in India I can’t wait to go back home… for your wife and kids too, there’s school, friends, wife’s family, work, the lifestyle, the medical system, etc. However, I hope it works out for you all," the user wrote.

A third person shared the experience of a friend who had moved back to India from Australia but returned to Australia two years later, adding, "So good luck, mate."
