Indian fans on social media, who were biding their time after the farewell they got from Pak fans following India's tame exit in the Super 4 round, hit back with vengeance.

Impressive performances by Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Wanindu Hasaranga and Pramod Madushan helped Sri Lanka choke Pakistan in the final stages of the match and finish with a clinical 23-run win.

Rajapaksa out together a hurricane innings (71 not out off 45) Wanindu Hasaranga made an attacking 36 off 21 balls to propel propel Sri Lanka to a fighting total of 170/6 in 20 overs. Dhananjaya de Silva (28 off 21) and Chamika Karunaratne (14 not out off 14) also played vital knocks.

When Pakistan batted, Pramod Madushan dismissed Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman off consecutive deliveries. The in-form Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed batted cautiously to lead a recovery, but ended consuming too many deliveries. The Pak middle order collapsed under pressure , some crafty bowling ny Hasaranga, and tight allround fielding, and they were all out for 147 in the final ball.

It was not just the defeat per se, many fans found it funny the way Pakistan succumbed to the relatively less experienced Lankan side. Pak players dropped catches, gave boundaries where there were none, and when they batted, was over cautious in the the first ten overs and in panic in the final few.

Their sloppy fielding and lack of aggression let Sri Lanka recover to 170.6 after they were 59/5 at one stage. All rounder Shadab Khan dropped two crucial catches of Rajapaksa, and that may have made all the difference.

Pak skipper Babar Azam, who had a poor run in the tournament and didn't score a single fifty in six consecutives T20I matches, too was the subject of memes.

This is Sri Lanka's sixth Asia Cup title -- 1986, 1997, 2004, 2008, 2014 and 2022. After losing their opening game against Afghanistan, Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and then again Pakistan to clinch the 2022 Asia Cup.
