India vs England: Rohit Sharma creates new records at the Oval

India's captain Rohit Sharma was in great form as he notched up his 44th ODI fifty against England in the first match of the series at the Kennington Oval. A rollicking opening partnership by Rohit (76 not out) and Shikhar Dhawan (31 not out) helped India chase down a target of 111 in just 18.4 overs

Apart from winning the match, Sharma also created new records for himself

250 ODI sixes

Rohit Sharma's five sixes at the Kennington Oval propelled him over the 250-six threshold for India in the 50-over format. He is the first Indian to reach that landmark.

Most fifties by visitor
Rohit Sharma's 76 put him on the top of the list of most 50+ scores by a visitor in ODIs played in England. In 25 ODI matches in England so far, he has 7 fifties and 7 hundreds.

Most fifties as opener

Rohit Sharma has amassed the most fifty-plus scores in ODI cricket in the first 145 innings. As an opener, he has scored 50 runs or more on 60 occasions. Shikhar Dhawan and Hashim Amla come in second and third, respectively, with 56 and 52 half centuries each.

Most ODI sixes in 5 years
Rohit Sharma, who smashed five sixes in his innings, increased his lead at the top of the record of batters with the most sixes in ODI cricket in the previous five years. He has got 126 now, with Chris Gayle (93) and Jonny Bairstow (79) coming way behind him.

More than 5000 runs
With their opening partnership of 114 runs, Rohit and Dhawan became the fourth opening pair in ODI history to surpass a partnership of 5000 runs together. The illustrious Sourav Ganguly-duo are the only other Indians in that list.

Opening stands over 100
It was the 18th century stand for Rohit and Dhawan for the first wicket. Their accomplishment places them joint-third on the list of ODI cricket's 100-run stands. Tendulkar and Ganguly are at the top of the list, with 26 century stands to their credit.
