India railways unveils futuristic proposed design of revamped New Delhi station. See pics here

The government plans to rebuild New Delhi Railway station, one of the busiest station on Indian railways network, into a world-class facility with all the modern amenities and services. The Ministry of Railways has shared the proposed design of the to be redeveloped New Delhi Railway Station on its Twitter handle.

The ministry has shared the futuristic model of the redeveloped railway station in a tweet. "Marking a New Era," the Ministry of Railways said in its caption for the photos.

The two pictures in the tweet show two dome-like structures with several towers in the background. The oval-shaped two glass structures are surrounded by several flyovers for easy access to and from the station.



According to reports, the -development scheme also plans to connect the Airport Express Line and Yellow Line of Delhi metro network with the New Delhi railway station via multi-modal transit hubs or MMTHs. Two MMTHs have been planned -- one on the Paharganj side and the other on the Ajmeri Gate side. New Delhi railway station is one of the busiest station in the country. It witnesses over two lakh passengers every day.

The redevelopment cost of the New Delhi Railway Station area is estimated to be around Rs 4,500 crore.

Earlier, the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) invited proposals for the redevelopment of the Delhi Cantonment Railway Station as well. The design of the new station was also shared on Twitter by the Ministry of Railways. The railway station will be constructed at a cost of Rs 335 crores and is expected to be completed within 30 months.
