India Independence Day 2024: India will celebrate its 78th Independence Day on August 15, 2024, a day that holds deep significance for Indians as it commemorates the nation’s liberation from colonial rule on August 15, 1947. This year's observance marks the 77th anniversary of independence and will be highlighted by the nationwide 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, which encourages citizens to proudly display the national flag as a gesture of patriotism.

The 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, now in its third year, started on August 9 and will continue until August 15. This initiative is designed to foster a sense of patriotism and pride among citizens by encouraging every Indian to hoist the national flag. Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, highlighted the campaign's significance, noting that it aims to instill a spirit of national pride and patriotism by urging all Indians to display the flag.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the public to turn the campaign into a significant mass movement. To show his support, he changed his profile picture to the national flag and encouraged others to do likewise. The campaign also invites citizens to take selfies with the flag and upload them to the Har Ghar Tiranga (HGT) portal.

India Independence Day 2024: Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Campaign

Alongside the Independence Day celebrations, the Ministry of Defence has initiated a nationwide tree-planting campaign under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative. Originally launched by Prime Minister Modi on World Environment Day, June 5, this effort aims to plant 1.5 million trees across the country. The drive will involve the three armed services and associated organizations such as DRDO, defence PSUs, CGDA, NCC, Sainik Schools, and ordnance factories.

The defence ministry stated, "The plantation drive is part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' (A Tree in the Name of Mother) campaign and will be carried out through the three Services and associated organizations like DRDO, defence PSUs, CGDA, NCC, Sainik Schools, and ordnance factories."
