Aadhaar, the pivotal identity document for Indian citizens, holds a crucial place in our lives. It encompasses vital particulars like name, address, photo, biometric data, and more. Recently, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued a warning to the public, cautioning against sharing any documents for Aadhaar updates via email or WhatsApp.

UIDAI took to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to sound the alarm against fraudulent activities. In their own words, "BewareOfFraudsters. UIDAI never asks you to share your POI/POA documents to update your #Aadhaar over Email or Whatsapp. Update your Aadhaar either online through #myAadhaarPortal or visit Aadhaar centres near you."

This alert is in response to emerging scams where individuals are being tricked into revealing sensitive Aadhaar information. To ensure the accuracy and security of your Aadhaar data, UIDAI suggests utilizing their official channels for updates. To access information or make necessary amendments, Aadhaar card holders are urged to visit the official UIDAI website (http://uidai.gov.in) or download the Aadhaar app. Additionally, individuals can avail of services at their nearest Aadhaar centres for any required updates.

How to conveniently update Aadhaar information online

For those seeking to update their Aadhaar details online, here's a simple guide:

  1. Access the Aadhaar Self-Service Portal on the official UIDAI website.
  2. Log in using your Aadhaar number, input the provided Captcha, and enter the One-Time Password (OTP) received on your mobile device.
  3. Proceed to the Document Update section and meticulously review the existing details to ensure their correctness.
  4. Choose the relevant document type from the dropdown menu and upload scanned copies of the original documents for verification purposes.
  5. Remember to jot down the service request number – this will assist you in tracking the status of your details update.
A further assurance from UIDAI is that they will never ask for your Aadhaar OTP or mAadhaar Pin. In light of this, Aadhaar card holders are strongly advised not to share these confidential details with anyone. Your protection and privacy are paramount, and UIDAI remains committed to safeguarding your Aadhaar data.
