IMD Weather Today, July 25: Gujarat, Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Mumbai, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Punjab, MP, Odisha and Northeast brace for heavy rain, thunderstorms as active monsoon intensifies

Weather today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather update for July 25 (Saturday), warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the country over the next few days as the southwest monsoon remains active.

According to the weather department, Gujarat is expected to receive the heaviest rainfall during this period, while heavy showers, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely across Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya and several northeastern states.

The IMD said a low-pressure area over southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh, along with the active monsoon trough and multiple cyclonic circulations, will keep rainfall activity vigorous across northwest, central, western and northeastern India.

Delhi-NCR weather

Delhi and the adjoining NCR are likely to witness light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms today, July 25.

Rainfall activity is expected to increase over the following two to four days, with heavy rain likely at isolated places from July 27. Cloudy skies and humid weather are expected to continue, while temperatures are likely to remain close to normal.

Mumbai weather

Mumbai and the Konkan region are likely to receive heavy rainfall, with isolated very heavy spells possible.

Waterlogging in low-lying areas and traffic disruptions cannot be ruled out as active monsoon conditions continue across Maharashtra's coastal belt.

Ahmedabad weather

Ahmedabad is expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy spells across Gujarat.

The IMD has warned that intense rainfall may lead to localised flooding, waterlogging and disruption to normal life in several districts.

Jaipur weather

Jaipur and several parts of East Rajasthan are likely to receive heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy spells expected.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely as the low-pressure system continues to influence weather conditions across the state.

Kolkata weather

Kolkata and parts of Gangetic West Bengal are expected to witness moderate to heavy showers along with thunderstorms tomorrow.

Gusty winds may accompany the storms, while rainfall activity is expected to remain active over the coming days.

Hyderabad weather

Hyderabad is likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. Strong surface winds are also expected across Telangana, while light to moderate rain may occur at isolated places.

Bengaluru weather

Bengaluru is expected to experience thunderstorms with gusty winds during the day. Although widespread heavy rain is not forecast for the city, scattered showers and strong winds are likely across parts of Karnataka.

Chennai weather

Chennai is likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. Light to moderate showers may occur at isolated places as weather conditions remain favourable for convective activity over Tamil Nadu.

Guwahati weather

Guwahati and several parts of Assam are expected to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

The IMD said rainfall activity will continue across much of the Northeast over the next several days.

State-wise IMD weather forecast

Gujarat

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall over the next day.

Heavy rain is expected to continue over the following two to three days, raising the possibility of waterlogging and localised flooding in vulnerable areas.

Rajasthan

Heavy rainfall is likely across several parts of the state, with East Rajasthan expected to receive isolated extremely heavy spells.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely, while rainfall activity is expected to continue during the next few days.

Delhi, Haryana and Punjab

Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely initially, with rainfall activity set to intensify over the coming days.

Heavy rain is likely at isolated places across Delhi, Haryana and Punjab from July 27 onwards.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the next few days, with isolated very heavy rainfall likely from July 27 onwards.

The IMD has advised residents to remain alert in landslide-prone and low-lying areas.

Madhya Pradesh

Heavy rainfall is likely over many parts of Madhya Pradesh during the next two days.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected at isolated places under the influence of the active low-pressure system.

Odisha

Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over the next two days, with thunderstorms and gusty winds expected in several districts.

Rainfall activity is likely to increase again during the latter half of the forecast period.

Bihar and West Bengal

Heavy rainfall is likely over Bihar, while Gangetic West Bengal may witness heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Rain activity is expected to remain active over the next few days.

Low pressure area formed in Bay of Bengal: IMD

A low-pressure area has been formed in the Bay of Bengal close to the West Bengal-Odisha coast, and it is likely to bring heavy rain till Monday, the weather office said.

The IMD, while noting that the low pressure is likely to become more marked over the next two days, asked fishermen not to venture into the sea from July 25 to 27.

The condition of the sea is likely to be very rough along and off the Odisha coast from July 25 to 27. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea during this period, the IMD said in a bulletin on Saturday.

It urged fishermen already at sea to return to the coast.

The IMD said that under the influence of the system, squally weather conditions, with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, are likely to prevail along and off the Odisha Coast from July 25 to 27.

"Under the influence of cyclonic circulation over southwest Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, a low pressure area has been formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal-north Odisha coasts. It is likely to become more marked during the next 2 days," the IMD bulletin said.

The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar forecast widespread rain across Odisha, with coastal districts expected to receive heavy downpour.

An 'orange' alert (be updated) of heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Cuttack, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Angul districts, while 'yellow' warning (be aware) has been issued for 16 other districts, including Puri, warning of heavy rainfall from Saturday to Sunday morning.

The office of the special relief commissioner (SRC) here asked all the collectors of districts categorised under colour-coded warnings to remain prepared to deal with the possible situations of water-logging, landslide, mudslide, lightning and strong winds.

Assam, Meghalaya and Northeast

Heavy rainfall is likely across Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura over the next several days.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected across much of the Northeast.

Konkan and Goa

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa, with isolated intense spells expected.

Waterlogging and traffic disruptions are possible in low-lying areas as monsoon activity remains active.

Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over Tamil Nadu and Interior Karnataka, while Telangana may witness thunderstorms and strong surface winds.

Coastal Karnataka is also expected to receive heavy rainfall.

Monsoon update

The IMD said active monsoon conditions will persist over the country due to a low-pressure area over southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh, supported by the monsoon trough and multiple cyclonic circulations.

These weather systems are expected to keep rainfall activity active across northwest, central, western and northeastern India during the next few days.

The weather department has also warned of possible waterlogging, localised flooding and traffic disruptions in areas receiving very heavy rainfall.

Residents in affected regions are advised to monitor local weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during intense downpours and remain cautious in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.
