IIT student rejects high-paying job offer from YouTuber Ishan Sharma, here's why

Bengaluru-based YouTuber Ishan Sharma recently revealed that an IIT student declined a job offer as a video editor, citing the need to stay on campus. Sharma, who has over 1.5 million subscribers, posted a screenshot of the email from the student on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In the email, the student explained, "The main reason is that leaving IIT campus at this stage in my life isn't the right choice for me. I want to at least complete one or two more years here. This is my final decision. It won't change." The student emphasized that his decision was not influenced by the job's salary.

Sharma expressed frustration in his post, noting that this was not an isolated incident.


"Tried hiring a video editor. He signed the offer letter. And then sends me this email. Has happened with me multiple times. What should I do now?" Sharma wrote.


The post has garnered over 32,000 views and has sparked various reactions. Some suggested that the student's decision might be due to a low salary, despite Sharma's assurance of "excellent pay." Others questioned why Sharma was hiring IIT students for video editing roles.

"Maybe hire actual video editors instead of students from technical colleges (that too IITs). You really expect those people to leave their degrees behind which they grinded years for? For a video editing gig," commented one user.

Another user added, "Why would you hire a CS grad from an IIT for an editing job role? He's probably learning ML, Cloud, etc., and exploring things right now.

Editing might just be a side hustle to him."Many agreed that professional video editors would be a better fit for the position. "Go for professionals, pay them good salary. They will stick.
