An IIT graduate seeking immediate employment and temporary accommodation in Hyderabad has drawn attention online after claiming that her father had asked her to leave home, leaving her with enough money to manage for only two to three days.

The graduate shared the post on the Reddit community r/FresherTechJobsIndia, seeking work, a place to stay temporarily and an opportunity to become financially independent. She said she was willing to take up a wide range of roles, relocate and start immediately, rather than wait for an ideal job opportunity.

The post, titled “Does anyone need a live in maid? IIT graduate looking for a job + temporary shelter in Hyderabad, willing to start immediately”, also prompted a discussion among Reddit users about employment difficulties faced by highly qualified graduates.

In the post, the graduate said her situation was very different from the career beginning she had expected after completing her education at an IIT.

She claimed her father had kicked her out of the house and that she had “very limited cash left”, with enough money realistically to survive for only “2-3 days”.

The graduate said she was considering travelling to Hyderabad if she could not find an opportunity quickly and was trying to avoid having to use a bus stand as her first accommodation after graduation.

Along with seeking employment, she appealed for information about safe and affordable temporary accommodation in Hyderabad.

Not looking for dream role

The graduate said she was not waiting for an ideal or highly specialised position and was instead looking for an immediate source of income.

“I am NOT looking for a dream job right now. I need a foot in the door,” she wrote.

She said she was willing to learn, relocate and start work immediately. The post sought leads for engineering, analyst, operations, manufacturing, research, technical support and technical writing positions.

The graduate listed Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Pune as preferred locations but said she was open to opportunities anywhere in India.

Educational background and skills

According to the post, the individual completed a dual degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialisation in Manufacturing Science & Engineering.

Her listed areas of expertise include manufacturing, operations and industrial engineering, data, business and operations analytics, CAD, CAE, FEA, research, technical work and technical writing.

She also cited experience with Excel, analytical problem-solving and documentation.

The graduate said she was currently learning Python, Pandas and SQL as she worked towards moving into analytics-related roles.

The graduate also described previous internship and project experience in aerospace manufacturing.

According to her post, her work included identifying machining bottlenecks, process optimisation, capacity planning, fixtures and tooling, and reducing manufacturing lead times.

Her academic and project work reportedly covered FEA, CAD, manufacturing systems and ESG/BRSR analytics.

Despite this background, the graduate said securing immediate employment and income was more important than finding a role that perfectly matched her qualifications.

Users react to post

The post quickly attracted responses from other Reddit users, with some questioning how graduates from premier institutions could find themselves struggling to secure employment.

One user asked, “Bro how r IITians not getting jobs n all?”

Another Reddit user, who said they were also a dual-degree IIT graduate, described needing work and asked to be referred if an opportunity arose. The user said they had a background in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science, along with machine learning research internships, published research papers and projects involving AI, computer vision and machine learning.

The user said they were willing to work as an AI/ML engineer, intern or in research roles.

Suggestions range from teaching to alumni networks

Some users suggested temporary work and other ways of managing expenses while searching for a longer-term position.

One commenter suggested joining a coaching or tuition centre, staying with a friend temporarily and using the time to approach alumni networks and startups in Hyderabad working in manufacturing or renewable energy.

Another user offered to review the graduate’s CV and help if the situation was genuine.

A further commenter suggested contacting professors and seeking project assistant opportunities as a way to secure immediate work.

Discussion broadens to graduate employment

The conversation eventually expanded beyond the individual post to broader concerns about employment among highly qualified graduates.

One Reddit user agreed that even IIT graduates were facing job-related difficulties and claimed that some were also being laid off without notice.

The original post has therefore triggered a wider discussion about the gap between educational qualifications and immediate employment opportunities.

The claims made by the graduate about her family situation, finances and employment circumstances have not been independently verified.
