Is IIT baba dead? Sensational claim goes viral on social media.
A viral social media claim that IIT Baba, also known as Abhay Singh Grewal, was found dead in Haryana’s Hisar has been dismissed as false by the police, as per reports. Officials clarified that the man whose body was found in the city was Rahul Jain, a Hisar resident, and not the spiritual figure who rose to prominence during the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.

The rumour spread through social media posts claiming that IIT Baba’s body had been discovered in a room under suspicious circumstances. However, Hisar Police’s clarification established that the reports had wrongly linked a separate death to Abhay Singh. Police urged people not to circulate unverified claims.

What did Hisar Police say about the viral death claim?

Amarinder Singh, Hisar Police’s social media in-charge, said the body found in the city belonged to Rahul Jain, whose body was discovered at his residence in the PLA area around three days before the police clarification issued on October 14.

According to the officer, social media posts subsequently misrepresented the incident by claiming that the deceased was IIT Baba and that his body had been found in a bedroom.

“The news is completely false,” the officer said, according to reports quoting his statement. He appealed to the public not to believe or share misleading information online.

A separate report by HT, published on October 12, identified Rahul Jain as a 35-year-old IIT graduate whose body was found inside the bedroom of his home in Hisar’s PLA sector. Police said the body had been sent for a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Who is IIT Baba Abhay Singh?

Abhay Singh Grewal became widely known during the Maha Kumbh Mela held in Prayagraj in 2025. His educational background attracted attention after an interview revealed that he had studied at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. The discovery helped earn him the popular name “IIT Baba”.

Singh studied aerospace engineering at IIT Bombay and later pursued a master’s degree in design, according to reports about his background. He subsequently worked in Canada before turning towards spirituality.

His appearance and story drew attention during the religious gathering, where he was seen dressed as a sadhu and spoke about his journey from an engineering education and professional career to a spiritual life.

Why did the death rumour spread?

The false claim appears to have gained traction after news emerged that Rahul Jain had been found dead at his home in Hisar. Social media posts then incorrectly identified the deceased as IIT Baba, with some versions claiming that Abhay Singh’s body had been found in a hotel room.

Hisar Police rejected the association between the two incidents and asked people to verify sensitive information before sharing it online.

Verdict: The viral claim is false

The claim that IIT Baba Abhay Singh died in Hisar is false, according to the police clarification. The man found dead in the PLA area was identified as Rahul Jain. The viral posts incorrectly connected his death to Abhay Singh.

Readers should rely on official statements and credible reporting rather than sharing unverified claims about a person’s death. In this case, the available police clarification directly contradicts the viral allegation.
