'If Indians are patriotic…': Wasim Akram issues stern warning ahead of Mega Asia Cup 2025 India-Pakistan clash

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has weighed in ahead of the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2025 clash between India and Pakistan, calling it a “highly charged affair” and warning fans to stay disciplined.

Speaking to Telecom Asia Sport, Akram said the Indian cricket team will start as favourites, given their recent form, but added that the team who handles pressure best on the day will ultimately claim victory.

“I am sure these matches will be entertaining, just like all other Ind-Pak encounters. But I hope both the players and the fans remain disciplined and do not cross the line. If Indians are patriotic and want their team to win, the same goes for Pakistani fans,” he said.


The upcoming match on 14 September has already generated massive excitement, amid speculation and rumours about India possibly pulling out. Fans on both sides are eagerly awaiting the showdown, which promises to be a spectacle.

Looking further ahead, Akram hinted that the Asia Cup could provide multiple India-Pakistan encounters, possibly including the final. He also expressed hope for the resumption of a bilateral Test series between the two countries, which would be a historic occasion for cricket fans on both sides.

“Fans must also show discipline,” Akram added, stressing the importance of sportsmanship in such high-voltage matches. “The game can be thrilling and entertaining, but decorum must be maintained by everyone involved.”
