ICC Test rankings: James Anderson replaces Pat Cummins as top-ranked Test bowler; Ravindra Jadeja returns to top-10

In the most recent ICC Men’s Test Rankings, the No. 1 bowler is veteran English fast bowler James Anderson. He beat out Australia’s captain Pat Cummins and India’s spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

James Anderson ascended to the top spot following his seven-wicket haul for England in last week’s 267-run victory over New Zealand in Mount Maunganui, ending Cummins’ four-year reign as the top-ranked Test bowler.

It is the sixth time James Anderson has held the top spot in the Test rankings, with the right-arm pacer first reaching the summit in May 2016 when he surpassed teammate Stuart Broad and Ashwin to take the top spot in a distinguished international career that began in 2003.


Cummins falls to third with 858 rating points, but he could reclaim the top spot with some strong performances during Australia’s current Test series against India. India’s players were not completely left out of the latest rankings update, with spinner Ravindra Jadeja rising seven places to ninth on the updated list for Test bowlers.



Axar Patel, who is the series’ second leading run-scorer with 158 runs, has also been rewarded by moving up two places to fifth overall in the latest ICC Test rankings for all-rounder. While the change at the top of the Test bowler rankings is the focus of this week’s rankings, there are plenty of players on the move in other categories.

New Zealand’s Tom Blundell (11th) and Devon Conway (17th) achieve career-high positions in the ICC Test rankings for batter, while England’s Ollie Pope (23rd), Harry Brook (31st), and Ben Duckett (38th) achieve the same honour with their own highest ratings.
