The schedule for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is expected to be announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) today at an event in Mumbai, according to news reports. Some users have posted a copy of the invite on social media but it could not be independently verified. The schedule of the previous two editions of the tournament was finalised over a year in advance.

According to BCCI's draft schedule, ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will begin on October 5 with reigning champions England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad, Press Trust of India reported, citing sources. With a little over 3 months remaining for cricket's marque event to start, there has been an a delay in releasing the schedule.

A total of 10 teams will participate in the tournament. Out of these, eight teams have already been decided, and while two other teams will qualify for the main tournament via the qualifiers.


Ahmedabad is also set to host the final on November 19. India will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8 while Ahmedabad will also host their match against Pakistan a week later on October 15, according to BCCI's draft schedule for the tournament.

The two semifinals of ICC World Cup will be held in Mumbai and Chennai, Press Trust of India reported, citing sources.

Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, Pune, Lucknow and Dharamsala have been shortlisted for ICC World Cup 2023 matches, Press Trust of India reported citing sources.

Pakistan will play their league matches across five cities, the report said.

The schedule of the Asia Cup, to be played in September, has also not been announced due to the deadlock between India and Pakistan over venues.

In the ICC World Cup qualifiers, Sri Lanka made into the Super Six beating Ireland by 133 runs. Sri Lanka made 325 after being invited to bat riding on Dimuth Karunaratne's knock of 103. Ireland were all out for 192.
