Kerala Brahmapuram Fire: Ernakulam collector Renu Raj transferred

Ernakulam District Collector Renu Raj on Wednesday got transferred and has been posted as the Wayanad district collector. The move comes after the growing criticism of her handling the Brahmapuram case very lightly.

According to an order issued by the General Administration Department, Thrissur, Alappuzha and Kozhikode will also get new collectors.

Renu Raj will be replaced by N.S.K Umesh who is currently working as a staff officer to cheif secretary. The government has also issued transfer orders to other IAS officers.


IAS officer took charge as the head of the district on Thursday and said that he will follow up with the action plan prepared by Renu Raj and will implement long term plan for proper management once the fire incident is resolved.

Dr. Renu Raj at the age of 27, passed the UPSC Civil Services Exam on the first try. Not only that, but she was a practicing surgeon when she applied for UPSC.

When asked about it, she stated that she had always wanted to be an IAS officer. According to reports, she was working as a doctor at ASI Hospital in Kalluvathukkal, Kollam district, Kerala, when she decided to leave everything and study for the UPSC.

Doctor Renu Raj achieved All India Rank 2 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination on her first try. She is from Kerala and has a medical degree. She claims to have studied up to 6 hours per day. While studying for the exam, she never compromised her health. According to reports, she avoided group study and studied on her own.

Renu Raj has become a famous name in the fight against corruption since joining the IAS. She spoke out against any encroachment or construction work that was being done illegally within her jurisdiction. Furthermore, according to reports, she refused to yield to any kind of external pressure.
