A tense scene unfolded in Mumbai’s Powai area on Thursday as police rescued at least 20 children held hostage inside a studio, shortly after a man posted a dramatic video claiming he only wanted “moral answers” and did not seek money or violence. The accused, identified as Rohit Arya, was detained and the children were safely taken out, Mumbai Police confirmed.

Mumbai Hostage Video:

Before the incident, Arya recorded a video where he insists he is “not a terrorist” and says he made a “plan” instead of taking his own life. In the clip, he calmly states he has kept children as hostages so authorities and “specific people” would be forced to listen to him.

“I don’t have money demands, I am not a terrorist. I just want moral and ethical answers,” he says, warning that a “wrong move” could push him to harm himself.

Once the video began circulating, police rushed to R D Studio in Powai and sealed the premises. Rescue teams and negotiators were deployed while parents gathered in panic outside.

Officials said they treated the matter as a crisis situation and continued talking to Arya to ensure the children were unharmed.

“All children have been safely rescued. The man has been detained and is being questioned. Police are verifying his mental health condition,” the police said in a statement.

What Mumbai Kidnapper claimed

In the video, Arya repeatedly says:

  • He wants a conversation on “moral” and “ethical” issues
  • He has no political or financial demand
  • He planned the act instead of committing suicide
  • A wrong step could trigger him to harm himself
  • He also mentions that keeping the children alive was key to “bringing change”.

Situation under control

Police finally entered the studio and secured all minors without injury. The area has now been cleared and families have reunited with the children.

Investigators are now examining Arya’s background, his motive, and whether he has any mental health issues. The bizarre hostage drama has left the neighbourhood stunned, as locals described it as something straight out of a thriller — only this time, it was real.
