Amid heavy rainfall, Hyderabad Police on Friday advised IT companies to allow employees to work from home to ease traffic congestion, following a heavy rainfall alert from the India Meteorological Department.

The Met Department has warned that the city is likely to experience moderate to heavy rains or thundershowers with gusty winds of 40–50 km/h on Friday and Saturday.

It expects water pooling on roads and in low-lying areas.

The Met Department predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda districts of Telangana.

What is IMD saying?

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather advisory for Telangana, predicting continuous rain and thunderstorms across the state from 26 September to 2 October 2025. Several districts are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by lightning, gusty winds, and thunderstorms.

The bad weather has already disrupted air travel. On Friday, multiple flights to Hyderabad were either cancelled or diverted. So far, IndiGo flights from Kolkata, Mumbai, and Pune have been redirected to Vijayawada.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a safety advisory for Telangana, warning of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds across all districts. Winds of 30–50 kmph could threaten weak structures, trees, and power lines. Residents, farmers, and commuters have been urged to stay vigilant and avoid open areas during lightning.

Telangana is expected to remain under an active monsoon pattern for at least a week, with heavy rain likely almost every day. Low-lying areas could face waterlogging, and transport services may experience disruptions. The IMD has asked local authorities to be ready for potential flooding in vulnerable regions.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates closely and follow safety instructions, particularly in districts under heavy rainfall warnings. The rainy spell is likely to continue until at least October 2, providing relief to farmers but also posing challenges due to intense downpours in some areas.
