The incident was captured on CCTV camera and went viral on social media. The footage shows Rakesh, actively playing in a doubles match before suddenly falling to the floor.
Rakesh was a resident of RTC X Roads and an employee at a private company. He had reportedly come to Uppal to play badminton as he knew someone in the area.
Moemnts before he collapses, Rakesh is seen moving comfortably on the court and serving the shuttlecock to his opponent.
Moments later, after conceding a point, he bends to retrieve the shuttlecock and begins walking back to serve again, before collapsing.
The incident occurred at around 7:30pm. Hospital authorities later informed the Uppal police, who visited the spot and reviewed the CCTV footage.
Post-mortem was conducted and its report was awaited, police said, adding that a case was registered in the incident. “Heart attack is the cause of his death,’’ Uppal sub-inspector A Madhava Reddy told TOI.
The incident raises concerns about cardiac arrests among young men, who appear to be healthy, during intense physical activities like training at the gym and while playing sports.
