Hyderabad man compares Rs 230 restaurant bill with Rs 436 Swiggy order: Same meal costs almost double online

A Hyderabad man’s comparison of a restaurant bill and a Swiggy order has drawn attention to the price difference customers may encounter when ordering food online. A meal that cost Rs 230 when purchased directly from the restaurant was shown as Rs 436 on Swiggy, before applying any coupon or discount.

Restaurant Bill Was Rs 230

X user @idlebrainjeevi shared a photo comparing the prices of food bought directly from Panchakattu Dosa in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, with the prices of the same or similar items listed on Swiggy.

As per the restaurant bill shared online, three items had a combined pre-GST value of Rs 219.04. The Neyyi Kaaram Onion Dosa was priced at Rs 104, while Neyyi Pongal cost Rs 85. A Filter Coffee was listed at Rs 28.


After taxes were added, the total bill at the restaurant came to Rs 230.

Swiggy Cart Totalled Rs 436

The prices listed on Swiggy were considerably higher. The Neyyi Kaaram Onion Dosa was available for Rs 149, while Neyyi Pongal was listed at Rs 115.

The biggest difference was seen in the coffee, with a Special Filter Coffee priced at Rs 120 on the platform. With no coupon or discount applied, the total cart value came to Rs 436.

Price Difference Sparks Social Media Debate

The comparison soon gained attention online, with social media users discussing whether the added convenience of food delivery justifies the higher prices.

One user criticised the delivery experience, saying, "99 percent time order definitely gets late and cold and tasteless too."

Another user offered a different perspective, writing, "These charges are for - 1) your convenience 2) excluding your travel cost 3) delivery men and the platform charges 4) tip to restaurant."
