Hyderabad: Four-year-old boy dies after getting stuck in lift gate, second such incident in Telangana this month

A four-year-old boy died after getting stuck in the lift gate at Muktaba Apartments under Asif Nagar Police Station in Hyderabad on Wednesday night, police confirmed on Thursday. The incident occurred around 10 pm.

The deceased, identified as Narender, was the son of the apartment's watchman. According to police, the boy was playing in the lift when someone pressed the button, causing the elevator to ascend while he was caught in the lift gate.

Second lift accident in a month

This is the second lift-related accident in Telangana within a month. Earlier this week, a senior police officer died after falling into a lift shaft at an apartment complex in Sircilla town on Monday night.


The officer, Thota Gangaram, 59, was the commandant of the 17th Police Battalion at Sardapur in Rajanna Sircilla district. He had previously served as the chief security officer at the secretariat.

Other Lift Related Accident

Gangaram had visited the residence of his colleague, Sircilla DSP Chandrasekhar Reddy, near the new bus stand in Sircilla town. After their meeting, he proceeded towards the lift on the third floor. Upon opening the grill doors, he stepped forward believing the lift had arrived, leading to his fall into the shaft.

Recent elevator-related fatality

In February, another fatal lift accident was reported in Hyderabad. A six-year-old boy died after getting trapped between the elevator and the wall at an apartment complex in Masab Tank while receiving medical treatment.
