Huawei launches Watch D3 with medical-grade inflatable wrist cuff for blood pressure monitoring: Check price, availability and features

Huawei has launched the Watch D3, a smartwatch that uses an inflatable airbag cuff to measure blood pressure at the wrist. The device supports 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, along with pre- and post-exercise readings, and is designed to track changes in blood pressure throughout the day.

Why blood pressure needs regular monitoring

Unless we have cause for concern, many of us don’t regularly check our blood pressure. But it is, more often than not, symptomless, while it can cause damage over time, causing health problems, including strokes and heart attacks. We can have our blood pressure taken at the doctor's, but lifestyle factors, including stress and diet, can cause it to fluctuate, something one reading can’t capture.

Huawei Watch D3 uses inflatable cuff for blood pressure readings

Smartwatches typically estimate and alert the wearer about blood pressure trends using sensors. The Huawei Watch D3, however, has an airbag that inflates against the skin, similar to a traditional cuff, to measure blood pressure directly.


The watch can automatically take repeated readings, allowing users to track how their blood pressure changes over time.

Blood pressure monitoring and ABPM

The Huawei Watch D3 uses inflatable airbag cuff technology for wrist-based blood pressure monitoring. It has secured European CE-MDR medical certification and supports ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM).

Under ABPM, blood pressure readings are taken over 24 hours at regular intervals during daily activities. The resulting report can be shared with a GP.

Watch is 11.3mm thick and weighs 40g

The Watch D3 has an 11.3mm profile and weighs 40g. It is designed for day and night use and is available in black, white and mocha gold.

The watch features a 1.92in AMOLED display with a higher screen-to-body ratio.

Pre- and post-exercise blood pressure readings

The Huawei Watch D3 also provides blood pressure readings before and after exercise. The feature is designed to help users assess exercise intensity and monitor changes in blood pressure around workouts.

The watch also includes measurement reminders, including prompts to monitor blood pressure when certain conditions, such as a drop in temperature, are detected.

Health monitoring features

The Huawei Watch D3 includes Health Glance, which measures 11 health metrics, including stress, skin temperature and lung function.

Its Health Insights feature analyses data including sleep quality, emotional wellbeing and blood pressure. The Huawei Health Community allows users to share health and fitness data with friends and family or receive alerts when another person's data requires attention.

More than 100 workout modes

The watch includes more than 100 workout modes, including golf, snow sports and trail running. It also supports Bluetooth calls, NFC payments and calendar access.

The Huawei Watch D3 is compatible with iOS and Android and is available for £399.99 through Huawei Store, Amazon, Currys, Argos and selected authorised retail partners.
