The main objective is to link ten island communities in Kerala's city with the mainland, resulting in shorter travel times and more cost-effective transportation. The Kochi Water Metro boasts a distinct infrastructure and has a capacity of carrying over one lakh passengers.
The initial phase of the Kochi Water Metro is expected to transport more than 34,000 passengers, as per the project details. Upon the completion of the metro system, this number is predicted to rise significantly, reaching up to 1.5 lakhs of passengers daily.
Moreover, Kochi Water Metro is a modern ferry transport project consisting of numerous boats running along 16 routes across Greater Kochi. Equipped with cutting-edge safety devices and advanced technology, the ferry ensures smoother commutes and more efficient travel experiences.
The boats in the Kochi Water Metro are powered by batteries and require only 10 to 20 minutes to traverse each route. The incorporation of innovative technology enables smooth sailing even in adverse weather conditions. Upon the project's completion, the system will feature a total of 38 stations and 78 ferry boats.

Passengers can purchase tickets for the ferry service at a minimum price of Rs 20 and a maximum price of Rs 40. Additionally, weekly, monthly, and quarterly passes are available at Rs 180, Rs 600, and Rs 1500, respectively.
Kochi Water Metro also features an Automatic Fare Collection system, which will be integrated with both the metro train and water transport systems. Each boat is capable of carrying between 50 to 100 passengers, with boats departing every 15 minutes.
