How to cool down a hot car quickly without overworking the AC: Try this simple trick before you start driving

A car parked under the sun can become unbearably hot within minutes, making it tempting to turn the air conditioner to maximum immediately. However, there are a few simple steps that can help release trapped heat first, allowing the AC to cool the cabin more efficiently.

Let the Hot Air Escape Before Turning On the AC

The air outside your car can be significantly cooler than the air trapped inside. Releasing the hot air first can help bring down the cabin temperature more quickly than relying on the air conditioner alone.

Start by rolling down a window on one side of the car and opening a door on the opposite side. Move the door back and forth several times to create airflow inside the cabin. This can help push the trapped hot air out while allowing cooler outside air to enter through the open window.

Roll Down the Windows Before Driving

Once much of the trapped heat has escaped, get into the driver's seat and roll down the remaining windows. This allows additional hot air to leave the cabin as you begin driving.

Turn On the AC While Driving

After releasing the initial heat, switch on the air conditioning and start driving. The AC can cool the cabin more effectively when the vehicle is moving, while the airflow through the open windows helps carry away the remaining hot air.

As the temperature inside the car drops, you can gradually close the windows and allow the AC to maintain a comfortable temperature.

Avoid Using Air Recirculation Initially

When you first turn on the AC, make sure the “air recirculation button” isn't selected. Since the air inside the car is extremely hot, allowing the system to draw in cooler outside air can help lower the cabin temperature more efficiently.

Once the interior has cooled down, you can use the recirculation setting to help maintain the cooler temperature without continuously bringing in warm air from outside.
