The reason the US law enforcement agency was alerted to the suicide attempt was because the man decided to search for a painless way to commit suicide. Once the search was flagged, the US National Central Bureau-Interpol acquired vital information like the users IP address and location, which they traced to an IT company in the Mumbai's Kurla area on Tuesday afternoon.
Once the man's location was traced, the police rushed to it, preventing his suicide attempt. The man was then brought to the crime branch office and counselled. He had earlier also tried to end his life three-four times, the official said.
After counselling, the man was sent home with his parents and advised to undergo psychotherapy, he said.
The reason for the drastic step was the man's monetary issues after he had taken loans from a number of financial institutions for his education and other requirements. He was also unable to pay the housing loan instalments following which he went into depression and started searching online how to commit suicide without pain, the official said.
