How long until the next UK bank holiday? Here's a list

After the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the UK has just emerged from four days of bank holidays.

Street parties in their thousands were held, along with official celebrations such as Trooping the Colour and the Platinum Party at the Palace, with performances by the likes of Diana Ross and Rod Stewart.

The next long weekend is already on the minds of many people who are back at work. Here are the dates for the next bank holiday.


It won't be too long before they get to take advantage of their next day off in Northern Ireland as the Battle of the Boyne bank holiday falls on Tuesday, July 12.

Next, the next Scottish bank holiday will fall a few weeks later, on Monday 1 August, one day earlier than elsewhere in the UK.

On Monday 29 August, England and Wales celebrate that long weekend. Bank holidays are also observed in Northern Ireland on this day.

There are slight variations in the dates of UK bank holidays. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own bank holidays, while England and Wales always share the same dates.

A summer bank holiday in Scotland, for example, always falls at the beginning of August rather than the end of the month.

As a result of the Bank Holidays Act of 1871, all four nations used the same date.

Following a trial period in 1965, the date for England, Wales, and Northern Ireland was shifted permanently to the end of August in 1971.
