A viral Reddit post of a couple living in Mumbai earning 2.2 lakh per month as gone viral. In the post the couple said they often struggle to save money by the end of the month. In the post they breakdown their expenses and asked to help in their budget.

Couple Shares Financial Struggles Despite Decent Income

“My partner and I collectively earn ₹2.2 lakh per month. We stay in a 1BHK, far from our respective parental homes, and are barely able to save any money. Help would be appreciated in helping us budget,” the user wrote.

Breakdown of Monthly Expenses

The user detailed their regular expenses, highlighting how costs quickly add up in a city like Mumbai. Their monthly spending includes ₹44,000 on rent, ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 on travel, and a similar ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 on electricity.

They also spend ₹8,000 on domestic help and approximately ₹20,000 on groceries, gas, and other household needs. Additionally, ₹60,000 goes into SIP investments, ₹5,000 is allocated for medications, and ₹12,000 to ₹13,000 is spent on outings, mainly linked to office-related socialising.

Irregular Spending Adding Pressure

They also said “Ideally after this, we should have approx 60k towards more savings. However, we constantly find ourselves without any money as the month closes.”

Beyond fixed expenses, occasional purchases and travel further strain their finances.

“Some days it’s clothes for me, other days it’s for her, then a watch, maybe a perfume. But more than this, visiting our hometown, ₹45,000 in one trip is gone.”

Concerns About Future Financial Stability

The user also expressed anxiety about long-term sustainability, especially with future responsibilities in mind.

“How are people surviving dude? How do we save money? It’s sustainable now, but what about when we have kids?”
