House of the Dragon Episode 1 review: Fans likely to be disappointed as it falls short of expectations
It is working hard to be darker and grislier than GOT but it hasn't quite hit the brief and this is the only demerit we can claim it has so far. So far it has lent itself to a story of betrayal, deception and political webs.

The list of successors is pretty short, with the obvious choice being his teenage daughter Rhaenyra, played by Milly Alcock and Viserys' jealous brother, Daemon played by Matt Smith. Rhaenyra is the obvious choice because she has all the makings of a good ruler, determination, level headed and ambitious. But the Lords are very clear about the fact that they want a 'King'.
The real main plotlines are pushed forth by the series villains and the House of the Dragon has yet to reveal the villain of the series, but most people may already have an inkling as to who it might be.
Another aspect of the series is based on how much it is being compared to the Game of Throne series and the question being raised is if it will stand on its own merit. However, currently it seems to be leaning into the comparisons.

At the end of the day, House of the Dragon is going to be a treat for fans, especially for those wishing for a better ending for the previous series. With the prequel being based on George RR Martin’s Fire and Blood, it might be all the closure they need.
