House of Dragon starts tomorrow: The plot, timing and everything else about this GoT prequel

The Iron Throne returns to TV on August 22 with House of Dragons, the highly anticipated prequel to the hit Game of Thrones. The final episode of GoT had many fans underwhelmed. With House of the Dragon, that premieres on Disney+Hotstar, the GoT universe dials back to the Targaryens, focusing on the events leading up to the war of succession, best known in GoT folklore as the ‘Dance of the Dragons’.

The series covers the war between Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and her brother Aegon II over who takes the iron throne after the death of their father, Viserys l. Doctor Who star Matt Smith plays Prince Daemon Targaryen, the king’s younger brother. The pair have “quite a complicated relationship,” Smith said. Emma D’Arcy portrays Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, her father’s chosen successor.




The new series is based on author George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood. Martin, who had criticized parts of Game of Thrones, said he had seen nine of the House of the Dragon episodes and found them “pretty amazing.”

“These books, these characters, are like my kids,” he said. “When you give your kids to people for adoption, you wonder how they will they be treated, will you recognize them?”

Please note: House of the Dragon will be available on Disney + Hotstar from Monday. The GOT prequel’s first season comprises ten episodes that will be dropped weekly. The episodes will stream every Monday, 6:30 am IST (Indian Standard Time).
