Honda XR300L, XR300 Rally launch in India: Check prices, 293.5cc engine, off-road features

The Indian adventure motorcycle market is getting another addition from Honda with the launch of the XR300L and XR300 Rally. Priced at Rs 1.83 lakh and Rs 2.08 lakh (ex-showroom), the two motorcycles bring Honda into a part of the market where buyers are increasingly looking for machines that can combine everyday riding with trail use and longer journeys.

Honda had showcased both motorcycles in India in July as part of a 10-model product announcement. The company has now opened bookings and confirmed pricing, with both motorcycles being locally manufactured and retailed through Honda BigWing dealerships.

Honda XR300L vs XR300 Rally: What is the difference?

Both motorcycles are based on the same platform and use the same engine, but their intended use differs. The XR300L has a more stripped-back dual-sport design aimed at riders who want a motorcycle with greater emphasis on trails and off-road riding.

The XR300 Rally adds more bodywork, a larger windscreen and greater wind protection. Honda has also equipped the Rally with features aimed at making it more suitable for longer-distance mixed-terrain riding. The model gets rally-inspired styling and Honda RoadSync connectivity.

Both follow the familiar dual-sport layout, with a tall riding stance, spoke wheels and long-travel suspension. The XR300L is therefore the simpler off-road-oriented option, while the Rally is positioned as the more touring-focused motorcycle.

Honda XR300L and XR300 Rally engine and performance

Both motorcycles use a 293.5cc single-cylinder, air- and oil-cooled engine closely related to the motor used in the CB300F. Honda has not yet published the complete India-specific specification sheet on its website, but the corresponding engine in other markets produces around 24.3 hp and 26.5 Nm.

The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox. On paper, the output places the XR300 motorcycles between smaller-capacity trail machines such as the Xpulse 210 and larger adventure motorcycles such as the Himalayan.

The relatively compact engine is also paired with a lightweight dual-sport format. That combination is important for riders who want a motorcycle that can be used for regular commuting but can also be taken onto trails and unpaved routes.

XR300L and XR300 Rally suspension and braking hardware

The two motorcycles are equipped with hardware intended for mixed-terrain riding, including long-travel suspension, front upside-down forks and a rear Pro-Link monoshock. They also get front and rear disc brakes, dual-purpose tyres and wire-spoke wheels. Honda has listed switchable dual-channel ABS and Honda Selectable Torque Control among the features of the XR300L.

The wheel arrangement uses a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel, a configuration commonly associated with dual-sport and off-road motorcycles. The setup is intended to give the bikes the hardware needed for loose and uneven surfaces without removing their road-going purpose.

Where the Honda XR300L fits in India

At Rs 1.83 lakh, the XR300L sits above some of the smaller dual-sport motorcycles while offering a larger engine and a more substantial equipment package. Its primary competition includes trail-focused motorcycles such as the Kawasaki KLX 230, while buyers may also compare it with the Hero Xpulse 210.

The XR300L's proposition is different from that of a conventional road-focused motorcycle. Its long-travel suspension, spoke wheels and 21/18-inch wheel combination place greater emphasis on off-road use, while the 293.5cc engine gives it more capacity than several entry-level trail bikes.

XR300 Rally targets longer rides

The XR300 Rally costs Rs 25,000 more than the standard XR300L and adds equipment aimed at riders who intend to spend more time covering distance. Its larger windscreen, extra bodywork and rally-inspired design distinguish it from the simpler XR300L. Honda also adds RoadSync connectivity to the Rally.

That makes the Rally more directly relevant to buyers considering motorcycles such as the KTM 250 Adventure or Royal Enfield Himalayan, both of which have stronger touring-oriented positioning.

The two Hondas therefore occupy different ends of the same broad category. The XR300L focuses more heavily on the dual-sport side, while the XR300 Rally combines the same core mechanical package with additional touring equipment.

With local production, pricing beginning at Rs 1.83 lakh and both motorcycles now available for booking, Honda is entering the Indian lightweight adventure and dual-sport space with two closely related products rather than a single model.
