Silver Pichkaris: A Traditional Wedding Gift
Jeweller Adesh Kumar Jain explained that gifting silver pichkaris is an age-old tradition, especially among newlyweds' families. "The bride’s family presents this to the groom’s side as a pledge. Prices range from Rs 8,000 to Rs 1 lakh," he shared.What makes this year special is the introduction of intricate carvings, meenakari work, and stone inlays, which have been highly appreciated by customers. Jain also noted that sales have been strong, with around 1,000 pichkaris sold in Lucknow alone. "Since we supply wholesale, many shopkeepers have bought from us to sell to their customers. I believe this tradition will gain even more popularity in the coming years," he added.
Golden Gujiya: A Luxurious Festive Treat
In Gonda, a sweet shop has taken Holi celebrations to a whole new level with its premium ‘Golden Gujiya’. Priced at Rs 50,000 per kilogram and Rs 1,300 per piece, this royal delicacy is layered with 24-carat edible gold and stuffed with premium dry fruits.Shop manager Shivakant Chaturvedi explained, "24-carat gold and silver are safe to consume. The gold layer and rich stuffing make this gujiya truly special."
Gujiya, a deep-fried sweet dumpling filled with khoya, nuts, and dry fruits, is a staple of Holi celebrations. However, this golden variation has drawn attention for its extravagant appearance and high price.
