One of the most joyous, colourful and vibrant Hindu festivals, Holi is around the corner. Holi is celebrated in all parts of India but extensively in North India. According to the Hindu calendar, this year Holi falls on March 8, on the last full moon day of Falgun month. On the eve of Holi witnesses the burning of effigies celebrating the victory of good over evil.

On this day people play with colours and throw water on each other and indulge in the sweets of Holi. Deep purple, Bright pink, tangerine orange, bright yellow, and many other vibrant colours can be seen among those taking part in the festivities. Music and dance are also an important part of this festival. This festival reminds us of joy, togetherness, and love.

Nowadays, Holi festivals are mostly celebrated with synthetic colours. Although synthetic colours are cheaper than natural ones, they are very expensive for the environment and health. Here are all the ingredients and recipes you will need to make natural colours for a safe Holi.


RED


Take an appropriate amount of china rose flowers, also known as hibiscus flowers. Dry them properly and grind them. Red sandalwood can also be another substitute. Another method is by taking rice flour and boiling the skin of pomegranate to obtain a moist red colour.

YELLOW


One of the easiest colours to make at home is yellow. Take turmeric and cornflour in a ratio of 2:1 and mix them properly to create a dry yellow powder. Another method is to crush yellow flowers such as marigolds and mix them well in water.

MAGENTA


Beetroot is the main source of making vibrant red colour. To obtain dark magenta, boil the beets in water and let them sit overnight. Add more water and the colour will be out.
