The colourful festival of the year has arrived, with colours of joy and rings of laughter echoing in the air. Here are some helpful tips for parents to keep their children safe.

The festival of colours, Holi, will be celebrated this year on March 8. From painting the town a rainbow hue with a variety of vibrant colours to consuming copious amounts of sweets, it's only a matter of days before the festive fever sets in. Children are ecstatic to splash a rainbow of colours on their friends and experience euphoria. However, if children are not taught to play safely with colours, Holi celebrations can be ruined. Here are some things parents should consider before sending their children out to enjoy the festival of colours.

1) Use natural colours.

Synthetic colours are strictly prohibited. Non-toxic, organic, natural, or herbal colours are preferable because they contain no chemicals. It will be gentler on your child's skin and easier to remove. You can use turmeric, henna, and sandalwood to make natural, homemade colours.

2) Avoid using water balloons.

Playing with balloons is enjoyable, but if they are thrown at a person with force, particularly children, they can cause serious injuries to the eyes, ears, and skin. Teach your child about the hazards of using balloons and encourage them to use pichkaris instead.

3) Wear the goggles

Colours can be very abrasive to the eyes. To avoid eye damage or infection, have your child wear funky goggles.

4) Dress appropriately

Make your child wear long pants and full-sleeved shirts. The goal is to limit the amount of skin exposed to colours. Also, generously apply petroleum jelly or moisturiser to your child's skin. Apply coconut oil to the scalp and hair to protect them.

5) Teach children proper water etiquettes.

Teach your child to avoid aiming water guns at people's faces. Also, advise them to respect the wishes of others and not force an unwilling friend to participate.

6) Keep your child on guard.

It is critical to keep an eye on where your child plays. Keep a close eye on them to avoid any untoward incidents.
